How Scoop calculates prices
Where the prices come from
Scoop checks the featured offer price on Amazon UK (amazon.co.uk) product pages several times a day, and refreshes each tracked product's data at least once a day. Every page shows when the price was last checked.
Usual price
The usual price is the typical price over the last 90 days. We take every price the product had in that period, weight it by how long it lasted, and use the middle value (a time-weighted median). A one-day spike or flash sale doesn't move the usual price much; a price that lasted for weeks does.
Below, around or above usual
We compare today's price with the usual price and round the difference to a whole percentage. If it rounds to 0%, we call it "around its usual price".
Lowest price signals
When today's price is lower than every price in the last 6 months, we call it a 6-month low. If a lower price did occur, we tell you how many days it has been since the price was this low (for example, "lowest in 45 days"). We only show these signals once a product has at least 14 days of price history, and only if the price has actually changed in that time.
When we don't give a verdict
If a product has less than 14 days of history, or if we're missing too much data in the last 90 days (for example, because it was out of stock for long periods), we say so instead of guessing.
